QSSET is conducted towards the end of the term during a scheduled survey period. For on-campus courses and synchronous online courses, QSSET is typically administered on a designated single day. For asynchronous online courses, QSSET is administered during a one-week collection window (Monday at 8:00 a.m. to Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET) within the survey period. Instructors receive a reminder email 10 days prior to their scheduled survey day or the start of their collection window. Instructors should ensure students are well informed in advance and allocate in-class time for survey completion as per the updated guidelines.
To maximize student participation, instructors should:
-
Announce the survey date (for on-campus and synchronous online courses) or the one-week collection window (for asynchronous online courses) to students at least one week in advance.
-
For on-campus and synchronous online courses, allocate in-class or live session time for survey completion.
-
Collaborate with a Class Student Representative for survey administration during on-campus courses.
-
For online courses:
Synchronous Classes: Reserve time during a live session, reading instructions aloud to facilitate participation.
Asynchronous Classes: Include information about the one-week collection window in course communications or the learning management system and send reminders at the beginning and, where appropriate, partway through the window to encourage survey completion.
The online survey solicits student feedback about instructors for two purposes:
-
to help Instructors improve their teaching; and
-
to help Unit Heads and Deans evaluate the job performance of ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ faculty for salary increase, contract renewal, tenure, and promotion.
The instructor will see only the anonymized numerical scores and written comments from the survey. Unit Heads and Deans will see only an aggregate of the numerical scores.
Notice to students about inappropriate comments:
The QSSET is your opportunity to provide vital feedback about your learning experience as it is affected by pedagogy, course content, and course materials. Written comments are especially valuable. However, the QSSET is not an opportunity to make comments that are disrespectful, demeaning, discriminatory or harassing in nature. Surveys containing such comments will be discarded and will form no part of the evaluation process.
