Call for Applicants

Applications for the MA and PhD programs in Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies (SCCS) at 魅影直播 will open on September 14, 2026.

Application deadline: January 31, 2027

The Department of Film and Media at Queen鈥檚 University is pleased to invite applications to its Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies (SCCS) graduate program. Launched in Fall 2019, in partnership with (AGNES), the program offers one-year MA or four-year PhD degrees. Students are fully funded through a combination of awards, fellowships and grants as well as teaching and research assistantship opportunities. The program offers access to exhibition and screening facilities both in-house and through partnerships with galleries, film festivals, and artist-run centres from all over the world.

Housed in the state-of-the-art Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, the MA and PhD programs in SCCS are unique because of their linkage to adjacent disciplines such as film and media studies and, more generally, the study of screen cultures, time-based media, film and media production, and curatorial studies and practice. These multidisciplinary programs provide students with a wide range of educational and professional opportunities including jobs in academia, arts management, programming, media production, and curating. The program鈥檚 openness to research-creation methodologies makes it perfect for practicing curators and artists who want to expand their horizons in a multidisciplinary scholarly environment.

The program鈥檚 three deeply interconnected areas of focus鈥攕tudies, production, and curatorial practice鈥攃reate dynamic entry points into a wide range of disciplinary formations. This collaborative, tripartite structure fosters an integrated approach to scholarship and creative practice that is not found in any other film, media, cinema, art, or communication MA or PhD program in Canada.

Faculty in the program bring together expertise in critical theory, visual and media arts, performance, production, mixed reality, experimental film, and installation. A vibrant program of visiting scholars, filmmakers, artists, and curators further enriches the learning environment, offering opportunities for practice-based engagement. This enables students to integrate knowledge from their graduate coursework while applying newly developed skills within and beyond gallery, festival, and museum contexts.
