Online via Google MeetQueen’s is taking part in Towards Zero Hunger: A Global Dialogue, a webinar series organized by the International Association of Universities (IAU) . The series highlights innovative practices that help end hunger, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture in alignment with UN SDG 2. The next session, PEACH Market – Providing Equal Access, Changing Hunger, takes place on October 30 and will be led by Theresa Couto, Registered Dietitian and Wellness and Sustainability Manager in Housing and Ancillary Services, Student Affairs.
PEACH is a ‘pay-what-you-can’ market program that launched on ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ campus in September 2022. It aims to create an inclusive space for students that provides dignified and equitable access to nutritious food and removes the stigma around food insecurity. It is a shared initiative between Student Affairs and the Alma Mater Society, complementing other food access programs on campus to support students, staff, and faculty, such as the , Swipe it Forward, and Fresh Food Boxes. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

About the Speaker

Theresa Couto received a Bachelor of Science degree with an Honors Specialization in Nutrition and Dietetics from Western University in 2011 and completed a dietetic internship at the Hospital for Sick Children. She started her career as a Registered Dietitian in 2012, working in primary health care at a Family Health Team east of Kingston. She joined Queen’s University in November 2021 as the Registered Dietitian and Wellness and Sustainability Manager with Housing and Ancillary Services, a Department of Student Affairs.
Theresa is integral in supporting healthy and sustainable food systems on campus. Under the direction of the Director of Business Development for Housing & Ancillary Services, Theresa is responsible for implementing wellness and sustainability programs and initiatives that address many aspects of sustainability as they pertain to the University's Climate Action Plan and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Theresa was involved in operationalizing the PEACH, Providing Equal Access Changing Hunger Market, a ‘pay-what-you-can’ market program that launched in September 2022.

Theresa is proud to be involved in this important initiative, which, to date, has provided over 18,000 rescued meals from Hospitality Services’ food operations to those in the campus community burdened with food insecurity.
