Afro Prism is an empowering space dedicated to celebrating and uplifting Black queer students. Afro Prism is designed to create a supportive community where students can connect, share experiences and empower members through education and creativity. It is inclusive environment where every student feels seen, heard and valued, ensuring that all Black queer students have the support and resources they need to succeed. I am so excited to create and host some fun events this year with y'all! Afro prism is all about creating a safe space for Black queer students at Queen’s to feel comfortable, take a step away from their studies, and engage in dialogue. Trusttt. I know there aren’t many of us on campus, and it’s easy to feel alienated and isolated. Especially when you aren’t as ‘outward-facing’ don’t worry we aren’t doing any proof checks.
In light of that, this event is also open to Black affirming peers. This includes fellow Black students who are in support and coming as a plus one as well as those who just don’t like mainstream labels.
We are off to a particularly jazzy start this year. Meeting at the cottage – 140 Stuart Street -- at 6 PM, we'll start with some warm drinks and get cozy. Then we’ll travel together to the Isabel and get ourselves situated. Feel free to get up and dance or sit down while you ruminate on your thoughts.
Afterwards, we’ll have taxi chits to provide everyone a safe ride home. And maybe even get to talk to the some of the artists after the show!
I look forward to seeing you all there!
